Gettysburg Series

I did this for an Independent Study I did this year. Originally there were going to be 4, but the first was lost to experimentation.

Each work is composed of 500 or so small plastic tiles, which were then sealed together into an aluminum frame with acrylic resin. Every tile represents a letter of the Gettysburg Address, the color of the tile determined by a trait of the words. The three that I finished are word type (part of speech), word origin, and word length. The close up shows the word type, orange being proper nouns, etc.

Because I assembled the works on plates of glass, and the tiles themselves are transparent, each piece has a nice stained glass effect. Maybe I'll do a larger one to really get that effect..
